Job Description

ARTSiE is seeking a part time teaching artist to join our team. We are a non-profit, mission-driven organization, seeking a dynamic addition to our small but passionate, hard-working group of individuals. Since its inception seven years ago, our Literacy through the Arts program has served over 550 children and their families, offering innovative programs that blend various art forms to fill learning gaps.

Our curriculum takes literature that represents BIPOC children and explores movement, music, theater, and more through this lens in after school and summer programming for K-8th grades. We’re looking for a collaborative team player who shares an enthusiasm for children, literacy, and the arts. The ideal teaching artist would possess a background in teaching creative drama, music, theater, art, and/or dance. 

This position is part-time for afternoon in-person teaching between 2:30 - 4:30 PM one to two days per week. The teaching artist reports to and is accountable directly to the Program Director. In a collaboration between the Program Director and Administrative Coordinator, the teaching artist is responsible for creating and abiding by lesson plans which support a specific theme connecting the arts and literacy. This job is an excellent source of supplemental income for performing artists, fitness professionals, college students, or anyone with a flexible schedule and a passion for empowering youth through the arts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Be a collaborative team member. Co-create a 16-week curriculum for teaching fundamentals of movement and basic coordination

  • Abide by ARTSiE’s mission: to engage and empower children and families through equity and excellence in arts and education programming, bridging and strengthening cultures and communities.

  • Build social-emotional learning into the program curriculum in accordance with ARTSiE’s mission

  • Participate in all mandatory program meetings

  • E-mail monthly invoices to the Program Director 

  • Use the school/site facilities with care and consideration

  • Communicate effectively with the Program Director about program issues/changes/updates on a weekly basis

  • Arrive at the school/site at least fifteen minutes prior to the program start time


Requirements: 

  • A background in dance, theater, art, music, or another fine art and at least 2 years of teaching experience in that subject area

  • Bachelors of Arts Degree (or significant coursework towards a degree in a related field) or proven ability/related training

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

  • Commitment to the arts and literacy education specifically for underserved children and communities

  • Daytime availability 

  • Second language fluency preferred

Job Type: Part-Time position, 2-5 hours per week

Salary: $25/hr, paid monthly. First month paid trial period.
