Winter/Spring Highlights 2023 Keeneyville D20
ARTSiE’s 2023 Winter/Spring session marked several highlights for our Keeneyville D20 families.
21 children participated in a new Drama Club class, taught by D20 teachers.
15 families attended the Hanover Park Resource Fair where their children performed dance pieces that reflected Alvin Ailey’s modern dance technique as well as a theatrical recitation of Amanda Gorman’s poem Change Sings.
13 adults and 8 families participated in our inaugural Adult Readers’ Theater Workshops and Presentation. During the two April evening workshops, families bonded over dinner, games, and the dramatic reading of scripts. Parents rehearsed their roles in the dramatic reading of the Cinderella story Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. Meanwhile, their while children participated in artistic activities related to this same story with teaching artists. At the Greenbrook ARTSiE recital, the parents performed the reading as a gift for their children. Black Readers’ Theater t-shirts were given to all adult participants. Read more about it here.
The children did incredibly well in their culminating ARTSiE recitals at Greenbrook and Waterbury, where they performed movement pieces based on Alvin Ailey’s dance technique. Take a look below at the Adult Readers’ Theater presentation as well as pictures of the children performing. We will see you soon! Happy summer!
Providing performance opportunities for children is an excellent way to teach them responsibility, preparedness, and problem solving skills within a collaborative and artistic atmosphere. Continue to make this impact possible by supporting ARTSiE below.
