Hola, I’m “Piloto”!

Alfonso “Piloto” Nieves is a visual artist who paints, sculpts, and creates large scale public artwork. Piloto’s principal materials when sculpting are clay, found objects, and recycled materials. Piloto has roots in both the Sierra Gorda of Guanajuato and the barrios of Querétaro where he saw his beautiful village and land change radically from industrial waste and pollution. He decided to create art that confronted this problem while also having a built in solution. He enjoys reusing raw materials left behind and deemed “garbage” by consumers. By reusing or “upcycling” discarded plastics, glass, wood and paper products, Piloto is helping clean local areas on a smaller level while raising consciousness about pollution and global warming on a larger scale.

In addition, he has shown his art in numerous venues around the world and is the home base artist for the ARTivist program.

Piloto is the guest artist for the ARTSiE and Fleetwood-Jourdain Center mural collaboration as well as the owner of ZENTLI in Evanston. His love for his community shines in the work he does. See his art in action, here!
