Family Dance over Zoom 2020
2020 was a tough year for everyone, but especially for children. The lack of social connection through in-person classes, whether during or after school, has negatively impacted children’s social emotional skills and made them feel lonely and isolated.
Despite the many challenges, we were able to continue our after school and summer programming, albeit via Zoom. Our pursuit of developing the social and emotional stages of children through arts in education would not allow us to halt our programs, especially knowing how much the children needed them.
One way we did this was by introducing Family Dance sessions over Zoom on Monday evenings in the winter of 2020 with Ms. Madison and Ms. Corinne teaching. During these 45 minute classes, children, parents, and siblings had the opportunity to create partner poses together, learn the Danza Kuduro dance, and more.
In the end, Family Dance sessions proved to be the highlight of this session. Everyone had a wonderful time creating lasting memories between family members during a difficult time for many.
