Fall 2021 Highlights
Literacy through the Arts Fall 2021
During our fall 2021 programming, over 36 children participated in either Movement and Art and/or Bilingual Yoga at Waterbury and Greenbrook Elementary Schools.
Our core text for this session was Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Community by Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell, inspired by the murals of Rafael Lopez. Utilizing the themes in this text, Ms. Corinne choreographed beautiful movements with dance scarves for the children. The children also created their own mural backdrops for the scenery of their final performances and had the exciting opportunity to pick out their own “artist” costume.
Our highlights from this session:
We introduced three guest artists to the children during the course of the session. Ava and Brooke Keiler brought ballet and choreography and Ms. Madison brought theater games and assisted in the mural trip.
Twenty children and parents joined us on a Mural Tour to Andersonville, Chicago where we studied the many murals in the area and enjoyed steamy mugs of hot chocolate. Read up on the full Mural Tour outing here.
The children loved a special mid-session painting class taught at Spring Wood Middle School by one of our guest artists.
