This fall, ARTSiE led Clase de Calaveras de Cartonería at Washington School. In this class, Guest Artist Piloto and Ms. Laura taught children the Mexican art of paper mache, leading children to create their own skull creations in celebration of Dias de los Muertos. 🎉✨ During the Gallery Showcase, 🎨👻 families gathered to admire their children's amazing painted skulls 💀🎨, listen to soul-stirring Indigenous music 🎶🌎, and enjoy delicious flavors from ZENTLI 🌮🍹.
🌟 A special highlight: Ramiro Ramírez Duarte, a world-renowned musician 🎺🌌 from the Otomi community in Mexico, visited our class! Playing ancient instruments 🥁🪘, his music has been heard in Tomb Raider and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever 🎮🎬, bringing this beautiful tradition to audiences around the world.
We can’t wait for our next culturally competent and literacy based class at Washington Elementary!
