Hi, I’m Amy!

The arts, particularly theatre, have played a significant role in shaping Amy Newlan’s life. From her first elementary school role in a school recital, all the way to working on Broadway scale productions, theatre and the arts provide Amy with an outlet for expression, the ability to better empathize with others, be a creative problem-solver, build confidence, and develop leadership skills.

While pursuing a professional acting career, Amy appeared in numerous Chicagoland productions and eventually landed a full-time position with Chicago’s award-winning Imagination Theater where she served for 10 consecutive seasons as a full-time Ensemble Member/Arts Educator and quickly moved up the ranks to serve as Artistic then Executive Director. She has also served for 14 years as the Executive Director for the Illinois Theatre Association and has been an artist-in-residence at public and private schools throughout the Chicagoland area for more than two decades. She is a seasoned storyteller, specializing in interactive experiences for audiences.

Her favorite moments as a Teaching Artist are those of discovery ("Aha Moments") where students become fully immersed in their work and excited about learning. Theatre allows for exploration and risk-taking in a safe setting.

In addition to working in the arts, Amy is an avid tennis player, has a new chihuahua puppy, and has been to Jamaica 20+ times.
