There are several family-friendly, summer events to choose from in our Northern Chicago suburbs starting this May! Take a look below, and let us know which ones you and your family attend.

The Wonder-filled World of Puppets at The Evanston Public Library

Robert Crown Branch Library

Join us as local award-winning educator, puppeteer and storyteller Marilyn Price presents three interactive stories using hand-crafted puppets! The audience will participate in the storytelling and conclude the fun with making their own character to take home!

My City, Your City, Our City First Friday: May 2, June 6, August 1.

6:00-9:00 PM at Mason Park.

Head to Mason Park Evanston's “My City, Your City, Our City” First Friday event of the Summer. This free, family-friendly community-building event hosted by the Evanston the C.A.R.E. team, will feature food, music, outdoor games, BINGO, basketball, an obstacle course, raffle prizes and more.


Matinee Movie at The Evanston Public Library

Sunday, May 18, 2025 from 1:00 PM – 3:45 PM

Join us for a fun viewing of a family film. We'll be making a craft before the movie begins so come early and join us in the Art Garden.


Splish Splash!

Get ready to step into a world of imagination with this interactive, multi-sensory theatrical experience for preschoolers and their grown-ups! Devised by Northwestern Theatre students in collaboration with Total Child pre-school, Splish Splash! A Day on the Lake is a special visit to one of our favorite summer places! Suggested for ages 2-5, run time is 45 minutes.

Saturday, 5/31 at 9:30 a.m. & 11:30 a.m.

Sunday, 6/1 at 11:00 a.m. & 3:00 p.m.

Charlotte’s Web at The Young People’s Theater of Chicago

May 10-June 1, 2025

A miracle is about to happen on the Arable farm. A kind-hearted spider spins her web to show everyone that “Wilbur isn’t just any ordinary pig.”

Recently named best American children's book of the past two hundred years, E.B. White’s Newberry Honor Award-winning story explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship.

Downtown Evanston Farmers Market

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Downtown Evanston Farmers Market as the season kicks off on Saturday, May 3.

The market will be open every Saturday through November 1, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at University Place and Oak Avenue. Shoppers can enjoy fresh produce, artisan foods and live entertainment throughout the season. Join friends and neighbors in supporting local farmers and vendors, and be part of this special milestone year for one of Evanston’s favorite traditions.


Imagine U’s Peter Rabbit

Award-winning writer Trista Baldwin gives Beatrix Potter’s timeless tale of Peter Rabbit a modern twist. What does it mean to be a good bunny? If everyone thinks you’re a bad bunny, can you ever be good? In this moving and adventurous re-imagining of Beatrix Potter’s classic tale, Peter Rabbit and his three sisters come together to tell a story of their very own. Suggested for ages 3-6, run time is 50 minutes.
