Hi, I’m Laura!

Laura Friedlander has been a photographer since she was 16 years old when her father bought her her first camera, a used Canon film camera, her beloved camera that is now “retired”. Laura continues to capture moments in time with a variety of digital cameras, and more often than not, her phone camera!

Laura took classes at The Evanston Art Center for many years working in the darkroom watching the magic develop.  Laura was an early member of Perspective Photography Gallery in Evanston, which brought considerable joy and inspiration to her photography, in addition to making connections with so many outstanding photographers.

As a school social worker, Laura co-facilitated an afterschool photography club and loved to watch students become aware of capturing light and moments, and sharing their “eye” with others as they developed a positive image of themselves as artists.

Laura believes in the power of capturing the essence of a person, an animal, a flower, looking through a lens allows one to quiet the noise in their head, get to a calmer place, observe the beauty surrounding them.

Laura dabbles in her own art practice, continues to take photography and loves spending time with her grandson, capturing his development and sweetness.
